A spicy curry beef filling baked in Pillsbury™ Frozen Pie Dough Rounds drum up a Jamaican beat in these flaky, hand-held pies.

Assembly

Water, cool approx. 72°F

Dried turmeric, ground

Prep
  1. Thaw pie dough rounds, covered, either at room temp. 15 - 30 minutes until pliable or refrigerate overnight.
Filling
  1. Cook ground beef in skillet until cooked through; transfer to separate bowl, leaving fat in pan.
  2. Keep approx. 1 Tbsp fat in pan and drain remaining; cook onions and habanero pepper until onions are translucent.
  3. Add cooked beef, beef stock, curry powder, thyme, salt and sugar; stir and heat to a simmer.
  4. Add breadcrumbs; stir and cook until all liquid is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat and cool filling completely; refrigerate until needed.
Assembly
  1. Place shiny side of pie dough up; add #12 scoop of filling to one half.
  2. Fold dough over filling, creating a half moon, and crimp edges with fork to seal.
  3. Whisk together egg, water and turmeric to create an egg wash; brush over top of meat pies.
  4. Bake as directed below until crust is a golden brown; serve warm.

*Rotate pans baked in convection oven one-half turn (180°) after 7 minutes of baking.

  • Serve with a side of mango salsa or mango chutney, if desired. Add variety by switching up the type and/or amount of pepper used. Make these patties ahead and freeze prior to baking; adjust bake time accordingly.
