Gold Medal™ Yellow Cake Mix is the starting point for a traditional Southern banana-pineapple cake. Add brown butter icing and pecans and it's divine.

Brown Butter Icing

Cake
  1. Place yellow cake mix into mixer bowl; add remaining cake ingredients.
  2. Mix with paddle attachment for 1 minute on low or until dry ingredients are moistened.
  3. Stop mixer, scrape bowl and paddle. Mix additional 1 minute on low.
  4. Pour batter into 8 greased 9-inch round cake pans.
  5. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans on cooling rack for about 10 minutes; remove to cool completely on cooling racks.

*Rotate pans baked in convection oven one-half turn (180°) after 14 minutes of baking.
Icing
  1. Melt butter in a small, heavy-gauge saucepan over low heat; stir constantly for 7-8 minutes or until butter begins to turn golden brown.
  2. Remove pan immediately from heat; pour butter into large mixing bowl.
  3. Chill for about 1 hour or until butter begins to solidify.
  4. Place butter in small mixer bowl; beat butter with paddle attachment until fluffy.
  5. Add powdered sugar alternately with milk; mix until blended.
  6. Atop mixer scrape bowl and paddle. Stir in honey.
Assembly
  1. Divide icing by 8 (approx. 6 oz each); frosting the top of each cake round.
  2. Sprinkle each cake with 1/4 cup chopped pecans.
  3. Chill finished cake for at least 1 hour before serving for easier cutting. Serve.
