German Chocolate Brownies

Pecans and shredded coconut are the keys to a rich, ultra-decadent cookie bar.

Brown sugar, packed

Butter, unsalted, melted

Egg yolks

Pecans, chopped

2 cups
Shredded coconut, sweetened
8 oz
2 1/4 cups
Batter
  1. Add water and brownie mix to mixer bowl fitted with paddle attachment; mix on low speed for 30 seconds.
  2. Stop mixer, scrape bowl and paddle; mix on low speed 1 1/2 minutes.
  3. Deposit batter into greased and floured or sprayed full sheet pan.
  4. Bake as directed below and allow to cool fully before frosting.

*Rotate pans baked in convection oven one-half turn (180°) after 9 minutes of baking.
Topping
  1. Place all ingredients except pecans and coconut in double boiler or steam kettle.
  2. Stir until blended, and cook over low heat until mixture begins to thicken. (Mixture will thicken slightly and turn a light caramel color, approx. 15 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat; add pecans and coconut and allow to cool.
  4. Refrigerate frosting 1 hour before applying to cooled brownies.
