Deep Fried Shortcakes with Red Wine Poached Pears

Sweet and crunchy biscuits are topped with creamy whipped topping, poached pears, and chocolate sauce for a delicious dessert.

Red wine poached pear halves, prepared

Shortcakes
  1. Whisk eggs and milk together in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add flour, sugar, baking powder and salt; whisk until smooth.
  3. Dip warmed biscuit into batter mixture until covered; drop into deep-fat fryer preheated to 350°F.
  4. Immediately turn and fry approx. 2-3 minutes until golden brown, turning occasionally.
  5. Remove from oil, drain and allow to cool.
Finishing
  1. Place 1 Shortcake on serving plate; pipe 1 oz (2 Tbsp) of whipped topping on top.
  2. Slice prepared red wine poached pear halves, leaving stem end intact, in 1/2-inch slices lengthwise.
  3. Fan out 2 pear halves over whipped topping then drizzle with 0.25 oz (1 1/2 tsp) of chocolate sauce and serve.

  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired. Note nutrition information will change.
