The excitement from the inaugural Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest continues for finalist DeDe Johnson of Johnson’s Farm in Orange, Mass. Named a finalist for her Yogurt Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake that uses Gold Medal Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake Mix, DeDe is making the most of her award-winning recipe.
“I’m still winning since last year, and my recipe has kept the excitement going,” said DeDe.
Just before the holidays, DeDe packaged the dry ingredients for the coffee cake along with her recipe and sold them in her restaurant’s gift shop. The packages sold very well, and she said her customers kept coming back for more.
“We have been making coffee cakes for a year, changing up the flavors each week,” said DeDe. “This recipe is a version of one from an old church cookbook that had become a favorite at the restaurant. The mix from General Mills makes it easy and convenient for us. Then, we substitute Yoplait yogurt instead of sour cream and add in chocolate chips.”
DeDe is extremely grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest and hopes this year’s finalists have as much fun as she did.
