Apricot Pistachio Baklava Cigars

Baklava takes a new form in this recipe, using Pillsbury's Best™ Puff Pastry Squares with sweet apricot and pistachio flavors.

Pistachios, shelled, whole, unsalted

Water, hot approx. 120°F

Prep
  1. Thaw puff pastry squares covered, either at room temp. 15-30 minutes until flexible, or refrigerate overnight.
Filling
  1. Add pistachios, apricots, sugar, butter, orange zest and cardamom in bowl of food processor.
  2. Pulse until finely chopped; transfer to bowl and set aside until assembly.
Apricot Syrup
  1. Add apricot preserves and hot water either in pan on stovetop or in microwavable bowl.
  2. Heat and stir until well combined; set aside to cool.
Assembly
  1. Dock puff pastry; brush with water and cut each square in half.
  2. Deposit 2 Tbsp (0.5 oz) filling into middle of each pastry half; spread evenly, 1/4-inch from edges.
  3. Bring long side edges of dough into center and pinch seam together (leave each end open to form long tube); flatten seam.
  4. Place seam-side down on paper-lined sheet pan and bake as directed below.

*Rotate pans baked in convection oven one-half turn (180°) after 11 minutes of baking.
Finishing
  1. Brush apricot glaze over baklava cigars while hot.
  2. Use serrated knife to slice each in half; plate both pieces and serve.

  • Tip: Top with additional chopped pistachios (1/2 tsp) for visual appeal, if desired. Note, nutrition information may change.
