During these unprecedented times, restaurants are feeding their communities in ways that are helping them to retain their staff and stay in business.
One action that’s gaining momentum: Restaurants are stepping up to feed frontline workers at hospitals, senior living centers and schools—fueled by an outpouring of donations from their own customers, neighbors and greater community.
For example, Chef JJ Johnson who owns FIELDTRIP in Harlem, New York, recently announced that he is going to support a hospital near his restaurant each day by providing meals. After announcing this on Twitter, donations started to pour in from the public. Others restaurants are taking to GoFundMe to ask for pledges that will help them feed those in the community who need it most.
